Fees & Billing for Obstetrics Services

We aim to inform you about all your fees and expenses upfront so that there are no surprises or hidden fees.  Please call our friendly receptionist for our schedule of fees.

Appointment Fees:
The percentage of Obstetric fees that you are able to claim from medicare varies from patient to patient. We will provide you with our schedule of fees on the day of your first consult, or alternatively, you can contact our friendly staff and request these prior to your first visit.

We request that your account be settled on the day of your consultation. Methods of payment include cash, Visa and MasterCard.

Private Health Funds
Dr. Loh is a no gap provider with all major private health insurance companies. This means that for your delivery and at any time you are an inpatient during your pregnancy we will send your bills directly to your health fund. However, some smaller health funds may be excluded from no gap arrangement. Please contact your health fund, or our reception staff if you are unsure about your cover.

If you do not have a private health insurance, or if you are not covered under Medicare  (e.g. an overseas visitor) we can still offer you an affordable package for Dr. Loh’s services.

Medicare
All visits to our rooms are classed as outpatient services and can be claimed through Medicare for a partial refund.

Your Medicare refund will be greater if your family has reached the Medicare Safety Net threshold. The safety net was introduced to ensure Australians are protected against very large medical bills. It means that once you reach your threshold, visits to your doctor and medical tests will end up costing you less.

Safety net accrual commences in January each year and, once the threshold is reached, Medicare will pay 80 percent of your out-of-hospital, out-of-pocket medical costs up to the nominated caps.
Most obstetric items do have a cap.

In order to claim this benefit, couples and families must be registered with Medicare. To register for the Medicare Safety Net, phone 132 011 or visit the Medicare website.

Pregnancy Management Fee (PMF):
Once your pregnancy has progressed past 20 weeks, you will be charged a once-off Pregnancy Management Fee. This fee is charged by all obstetricians and facilitates personalised pregnancy care and the provision of 24/7, on-call service from Dr. Loh as required. The medicare item number for this fee is 16590 and a Medicare rebate is available.

Other Costs
During the course of your pregnancy and delivery, the following services may incur additional charges:

  • blood tests
  • ultrasounds
  • paediatrician
  • surgical assistant (if you have a caesarean section)
  • anaesthetist (if you have an epidural or caesarean section)

For these services, accounts will be issued separately by the firms or practitioners involved. Where possible, we’ll provide you with their contact details in advance so you can request a quote.

If you have any questions about our fees & expenses, please feel free to ask one of our friendly receptionists on (07) 3010 5708 or email on reception@drvincentloh.com.au.
